Nellie Leal –Pedro
, came to Canada in 1970 from the island of Terceira in Azores, Portugal.

Education:
Essex Public School
Central High School of Commerce - Diploma
Ryerson Polytechnic University - certificate in Radio and Television Arts. 
George Brown College – Real Estate 

Career:
1981 to 1985 -   Nellie worked in the production of television commercial as a partner of Studio One Productions. 

1983 - Started a video production company with her now husband Cesar Pedro.  Royal Video Productions produced short documentaries and wedding videos.

1985 - Attended George Brown College and completed the Real Estate course.  License with the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations under the Business Brokers Act. 

1986 - Upgraded her real Estate skills by completing the TREB’s ICI course, Real Estate Law, ICI Real Estate and Property Management.

1986 to 1997 - Successfully practiced and negotiated in real estate winning many awards.

1997 to PresentPartner with her husband on CPTV Productions.  Producer and Host of Gente da Nossa TV; a Portuguese language program on CityTV’s CHIN Multicultural TV programming.
Producer of Gente da Nossa TV, on Citytv -CHIN multicultural programming.  1997- Present
Producer of Gente Jovem, Rogers Mosaic Producer.
Founder and Director of Gente Nossa magazine.  
Partner of Gente da Nossa Tours
Executive Producer of “Bom Dia” Television show.

In the Portuguese Community Nellie has always taken on a leadership and participating roll on a number of different organizations

  • Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business and Professionals,
  • FPCBP, Vice- President and President.
  • Canada Portugal Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • CPCCI, Founding member.
  • Portuguese Canadian youth Camp.
  • PCYC, Advisory Committee Chair 1993-1995.
  • Alliance of Portuguese Clubs and Associations of Ontario
  • ACAPO, President of the General Assembly, Oct. 1997-April 1998.
  • Casa dos Acores, Toronto-Chair, Cultural Committee - Oct.1996-March 1997
  • Co-coordinator for Portuguese Disable Society Building Fund
  • Member of Portuguese Heritage and History Month committee of TDSB
  • Member of the Tutoring program committee
  • Chair of the Portuguese Coalition for Better Education 2003-present
